Residence Permits

There are two types of residence permit:
a)   Temporary residence permit;
b)   Permanent residence permit.

  6. Residency through retirement

Overview

The Portuguese Republic is a transcontinental country member of the European Union. It is located in the southwest of Europe, in the Iberian peninsula. It has borders to the east and the north with Spain, and limits to the south and west with the Atlantic ocean. Portugal’s passport is ranked as the 6th strongest passport in the world. It allows visa-free access to over 172 countries. Portuguese passport holders have the right to study, work, and live in any country in the European Union.

Golden Visa Requirements

  1. Transfer a minimum of one million euros into Portugal, *
  2. Set up a business in Portugal and capitalize it with at least €500,000,
  3. Create a minimum of 10 jobs in the country, ** or
  4. Purchase a property worth at least €500,000 in Portugal (€350,000 for properties that are more than 30 years old or located in an urban renewal area).

Permanent residence
Residents who are from non-EU/EFTA countries can apply for Portuguese permanent residence after having lived in Portugal for five years if they have a valid temporary residence permit and can prove that they have had legal and uninterrupted residence in Portugal for the five year period

Cost-  To get the residence permit you will have to prove that you have a monthly regular income of at least €1,070.

Stay-  Residents who are from non-EU/EFTA countries can apply for Portuguese permanent residence after having lived in Portugal for five years if they have a valid temporary residence permit and can prove that they have had legal and uninterrupted residence in Portugal for the five year period
